The shortest day and longest night of the year marking winter solstice has come around once again. While some might jump into the freezing sea in celebration of the day, BE. Collective and DJ MzRizk are taking a more good vibes approach by collaborating on a day of designer markets and a block party.

BE. have announced a stellar line up of Melbourne-based creatives who will feature stalls at the pop up. Fashion label Remuse will be there with clothing constructed from natural fibres, vegan materials, plant-based dyes and recycled fabrics. Jewellery label Ovazania will be selling handcrafted accessories inspired by African art. Beit e’Shai, Kyashi Writes, Shagaze and Clitories are among many other local artists who will be featured at the market.

Block party proceedings are being headed up by radio presenter and event curator MzRizk. DJs will include Melbourne hip hop legend Sensible J, along with disco house queens Suze Da Fuze and DJ Cara Mia.

Forget hiding inside this winter solstice — it’s time to support local creatives and dance the winter blues away.

Solstice Festival is Saturday June 23 at Section 8 in Melbourne.
