loiza lamers is the first trans woman to win next top model
The 20-year-old former hairdresser was announced as the winner of Holland’s Next Top Model this week.
The winner of Holland's Next Top Model was announced this week as Loiza Lamers, a 20-year-old former hairdresser who revealed during the airing of the show that she is a trans woman. Though several transgender models have competed in international versions of the show, Lamers is the first to have won the competition.
According to Dutch newspaper de Telegraaf, Lamers didn't mention to the producers of the show that she is transgender during filming, saying, "I want to be judged on who I am, not on my story". However, after rumours started swirling on the internet whilst the show was on air, Lamers decided to go public about her identity. "I'm really at a point where I can say I am very proud to be transgender," she explained at the time, adding, "And I hope I can convey that".
When she was announced as the winner of the competition on Monday, the stunning Dutch model posted a picture of herself accepting the prize money on Instagram, writing in Dutch, "Dear all!!! Thanks for all your votes, sweet comments and support! I'm so darn happy with everything that I have experienced ! Thanks thanks thanks ! #hntm #finale #love #for #you".
