solange wants you to be in her backing band
Calling all Crescent City guitarists, keyboardists, and vocalists.
Whether it's repping fresh designers like Phlemuns and William Okpo or recruiting up-and-coming crooners to feature on her phenomenal new album A Seat at the Table, Solange is a longtime devotee of fostering young talent. Now she's seeking untapped musical artists to bring the album's magic and more-relevant-than-ever themes to life. On Solo's website Saint Heron last night, a casting call announced that the "Cranes in the Sky" singer/songwriter is recruiting guitarists, keyboardists, and back-up singers.
"Calling all musicians in New Orleans and the surrounding areas!" reads the notice. "We're in search of vocalists, guitarists, and keyboardists between the ages of 18 — 35 for our very own, Solange. Right here in New Orleans, we're holding auditions for talented instrumentalists and singers to become part of the musical team that helps Solo bring the magic to her fans. Details for in-person auditions will be disclosed to those who are selected from the initial submission process." Interested parties can send a three-minute audition video to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The notice specifies that applicants need to be based in New Orleans or the surrounding area, but if your tape strikes a chord it would be well worth packing a suitcase for the Crescent City. Solo's backing band has previously accompanied her to such stages as SNL and Coachella, and its new incarnation will no doubt be following her to Primavera with Frank Ocean and Grace Jones next year — hopefully carrying many pounds of marshmallow-hued memory foam.
