nina nitsche of margiela recruited by vetements
The hire signals a more 'adult' trajectory for the brand, which has moved from outsider to fashion heavyweight in a matter of months.
Vetements fall/winter 2016
Nina Nitsche, often regarded as the right-hand woman of Martin Margiela, has joined the Vetements team. WWD report that the German designer will serve as the Parisian label's collection director. Demna Gvasalia, Vetements' co-founder and creative director, confirmed Nina will lead the design team under his creative direction. "It's becoming adult," he mused, referring the label's rapid growth over the past 24 months.
Nina worked with Martin Margiela for 20 years, serving as the elusive designer's first assistant, then as the label's collection manager, before her appointment as his successor. Demna now divides his time between Vetements and Balenciaga, where he was named creative director in October 2015. He will show his spring/summer 17 collection for the house in Paris this Sunday. Vetements will not show this week, opting instead to present their collections in January and June — rather than the traditional February and September.
