Last night's Billboard Awards ceremony was one for the books; it's not often such a gathering has so many noteworthy performances. Britney opened with an incredible medley of hits, from "Work Bitch" to "Slave 4 U," before being presented with the Millennium Award. It's a timely reminder of why she's the Princess of Pop ahead of the release of "Make Me (Ooh)" later this year.

Prince was obviously on a lot of artists' minds -- The Weeknd dedicated his Top 100 award to the purple paisley God, whilst Madonna took to the stage for a performance of "Nothing Compares" and "Purple Rain" with Stevie Wonder. While her vocals might not quite of been Prince standard, she did an almighty impression of him in a metallic violet suit and ruffled collar. Oh, and descended from a purple throne.

Kesha also made a surprise appearance. It was alleged that Dr Luke had blocked her from performing until she promised not to comment on their legal battle. Resplendent in a white suit decorated with rainbows, she gave a touching, mournful performance of the Bob Dylan classic "It Ain't Me Babe," accompanied by Ben Folds on piano and Y Music on violin.

Also of note was Demi Lovato's stadium-shredding performance of hit "Cool For the Summer," for which she donned a t-shirt adorned with the all gender bathroom logo. Rounding it out, Rihanna brought the house down adorned in fluffy green feathers, singing "Love on the Brain."
