amy winehouse documentary announced
The BAFTA-winning director behind Senna has turned his talents to the tragic story of the late singer.
Amy Winehouse's dramatic life is getting the documentary treatment from award-winning director Asif Kapadia. Kapadia was behind the much-lauded, highly moving Senna, which recounted the life of the Brazilian Formula One driver who died in a race crash in the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix. Now the director will explore the life of the Grammy-winning singer through archive footage and unheard tracks, looking at her immense talent, her addictions, her destructive love life and the invasive media attention it encouraged. Winehouse's death from alcohol poisoning in 2011 at the age of 27 was a great loss to her family, friends, fans and the future of music. The film, simply titled Amy, will be in cinemas in the UK from July 3rd.
