lfw: ashish spring/summer 15

Ashish spring/summer 15 was without a doubt the shining star of LFW. Styled by Anna Trevelyan, last season’s sparkle princes and princesses got all dressed up and ready to party in their rainbow sequin tracksuits, fabulous dresses and oversized denim...

Models strutted to Zebra Katz' Turn The House Up, with strands of glitter gleaming in their hair and dresses cheekily left unzipped as they headed to, according to Ashish Gupta, "a magical mystical secret den somewhere really fabulous" to dance the night away. "I've been wanting to try lots of new techniques out for a while now," the designer told i-D, "including making gingham and snakeskin out of sequins." In fact, the collection was almost entirely covered in them and Ashish's experimental efforts were most definitely a success.

A definite stand-out look was the grey marl sweatshirt with a slightly skewed sequin version of Kim and Kanye. "I'm quite obsessed with trashy celebrity magazines and fan art and I thought it was funny," explains Ashish, before we suggest that Kim will soon be requesting one. "I hope so! I love her!" he laughs. Fan art designs also featured Miley and her tongue, a glittery bottle of poppers and One Direction jeans with the boys' smiling faces shining bright like the stars they are.

As for the casting, Ashish opted for only black models. "I don't think there's enough done to promote diversity in the fashion industry," he explained. "It's all very well having a token black girl here and there but I really wanted to make a statement. You know, if a designer has all white girls in their show, nobody asks for the reasons behind the casting, which I think is really strange. We live in a multi-cultural society. London is one of the most amazing multi-cultural cities and I just feel that needs to be represented in fashion." Well said Ashish.
