robert pattinson is designing his own clothing line
"For the last two years, I’ve been visiting producers and craftsmen. There’s already quite a few pieces."
Robert Pattinson is a master of reinvention. It seems like just yesterday that the future Mr. FKA twigs was just your not-so-average teen with a severe sunlight and garlic allergy. Only two weeks ago he renewed a contract with Dior Homme that made him the first celebrity face of the brand's menswear line. With credits like these, what wouldn't make him the ideal heir to Kanye's celebrity fashion designer throne?
Pattinson has revealed in the past that he enjoys sketching women's dresses, and according to an interview accompanying a new Dior Homme shoot by Jean-Baptise Mondino in Numéro Homme, he's taking this side-hustle very seriously indeed. In fact there are real Pattinson-designed pieces existing at this very minute. "I've started making clothes," he confirms to the magazine. "For the last two years, I've been visiting producers and craftsmen. There's already quite a few pieces. I love doing it."
By the sound of it, R-Patz RTW will be heavy on denim, wool, and utilitarian sensibilities. "My style is influenced by the cities I go to, sourcing fabrics and local skills. In Los Angeles it's really easy to work with denim and do workwear inspired clothes. In England I look more towards wool and knitwear." The line might even come with its own Vetements-like collective of the actor's closest friends and collaborators. "What I do is pretty multifaceted, clothes for men and for women, things that I make with friends..." he reveals. "But I'm not going into too much detail, I don't want to jinx anything..."
This is so seemingly unexpected that Dior could hardly have thought of writing a "no creating competitor clothing lines" clause into Pattinson's extended contract. Watch this space next season for any breaking updates to the fashion month calendar.
