Don't Look Up
After playing a charismatic chess playing activist in The French Dispatch and gearing up in all-black body armour in Dune, Netflix have dropped a trailer that gives us a sneak peek at Timothée Chalamet in his next role. This time as Quentin in the apocalyptic sci-fi comedy Don’t Look Up.
The trailer for the movie, directed by Adam McKay (Vice, The Big Short), briefly shows Timmy whipping his head round to face the camera. His black shaggy curled tresses, recently dyed red for his upcoming cannibal Luca Guadagnino movie, are here styled into a mullet under a backwards cap (we call that range). As of yet little else is know about his character but with a full-length trailer likely to follow soon, hopefully we’ll have more details on cinema’s most in demand actors new role.
The movie follows two astrologers, the ever-hyperventilating Dr. Randall Mindy and the uber-chilled Dr. Kate Dibiasky, played by Leo and J-Law respectively, as they go on a global media tour to warn the world of an approaching comet on course to destroy the earth. Unfortunately but unsurprisingly, their warnings seem to fall on deaf ears. The most notable of their deniers being US President Janie Orlean played by Meryl Streep who, judging by her son (played by Jonah Hill) being her Chief of Staff and her blasé attitude to an impending apocalypse, is perhaps somewhat Trump-inspired.
Other exciting castings in the film include rumoured r.e.m beauty CEO Ariana Grande as Riley Bina, a girl who loves a spiked accessory, and Kid Cudi as DJ Chello. Rob Morgan, Mark Rylance, Tyler Perry, Ron Perlman, Cate Blanchett, Matthew Perry, Chris Evans, Melanie Lynskey and Michael Chiklis also make up this all star cast.
The movie will have a limited theatrical release on 10 December 2021 before becoming available to stream widely on Netflix from 24 December. In the meantime watch the teaser trailer for Don’t Look Up below.
