Japanese photographer Piczo lives in London. With his shoots cancelled due to the pandemic, he's been keeping busy by editing long-neglected personal projects and enjoying the free time his career doesn't often allow him. “Work disappeared from my diary just before lockdown,” he says. “So I’ve started doing more exercise -- I’m running by the canal every day. I’m going to get fit!” Cooking has been another helpful distraction from the state of the world, as has the presence of his girlfriend, Molly.

“Trying to spend your time as normally as possible is important in order to stay sane,” he says, and that includes making plans. “The first thing I’m going to do after all of this is to have a shoot and then go the pub for a pint afterwards!”

It seems it's hard for humans to stay apart, even during a pandemic.

This bug was upside down by my window. I never would have noticed him before lockdown.

On 6 April I had a very important mission: to drive my best friends and their baby home from Homerton hospital. Welcome to the world, Shion!

I shot this for the V&A. It's the biggest any of my photos has been, but no one's around to see it now.
