Dido Rich was scouted in New York while strolling through Soho, despite her only previous modelling experience being selfies. For Dido, appearing in front of the camera is a way to give herself a platform to talk about what she really cares about — mental health. “I want everyone to realize that they can do anything once they have faith in themselves and to always push through no matter what life throws at them,” she says. Below, the model answers i-D’s Q&A to accompany these photos by Timothy Rosado, styled by Cornelius Lafayette.
Tell us something unique about yourself.
I like to call myself a chameleon because I can blend into many different types of people and settings. I grew up being very creative in dancing, singing and just making people laugh.
What are you passionate about?
I'm passionate about helping people realize how powerful they truly are.
Tell us some interesting hobbies that people may not know about.
I sing, and love to tap dance. I also started painting during the pandemic as a hobby and I fell in love with it.
What type of music do you enjoy listening to?
I enjoy listening to all types but my favorite is Reggae.
What are your goals and aspirations?
One of my aspirations is to become a life coach or motivational speaker to bring awareness to mental health. I want everyone to realize that they can do anything once they have faith in themselves and to always push through no matter what life throws at them. My goal is to start my own platform where I speak on different topics including mental health, ether on a podcast or a channel. I'm still brainstorming on how to start but that is one goal of mine.
Tell us about how you got scouted.
I went to visit a friend in Soho, NYC and while I was walking down a block I was stopped by Valente and Roderick. They both asked me if I ever considered modeling and I told them I've had a photo shoot once or twice but never thought to take modeling seriously. I did like taking selfies though lol. They took my phone and gave me a little photo shoot and gave me some pointers on poses. Then they invited me to take some digitals, the rest is history.
What do you like most about your job?
What I like most about my job is showing up for myself in such a powerful way. I get to be my own biggest fan and cheer myself on. Also, I get to look great in great clothing and meet a lot of amazing people.
