the what is love? issue

What is love in 2014? Is it a relationship between two people, a digital reaction or something altogether more? In the What is Love? Issue of i-D we celebrate the variety of warm, giddy feelings, states and attitudes the “L” word evokes today.

So what is love for team i-D? Nicolas Ghesquiere's stellar debut for Louis Vuitton stole all of our hearts. We celebrate with an exclusive interview with Nicolas about taking over one of the world's biggest luxury brands and a romantic and cinematic shoot starring Sasha Pivovarova by Glen Luchford. British designers Katie Hillier and Luella Bartley enjoyed an equally as impressive debut at Marc by Marc, here they discuss spearheading the youth revolution in New York. We're also head over heels (who isn't?) for Marques'Almeida, the young London designers fuelling fashion's denim resurgence, and fast cementing their position as one to watch on the London fashion scene, and the elegant yet edgy tailoring of Thomas Tait, a London based designer whose star is so rapidly in the ascendant it's shot off into the stratosphere. The LVMH Young Fashion Designer Prize winner invites us into his studio to discuss the power of a strong woman, loving what you do and more.

Palace skatewear has been dominating our wardrobes for a while now; we team up with Palace founder Lev Tanju to celebrate their latest collaboration with Adidas Originals with Alasdair McLellan and skater Blondie McCoy. We all know, there's no love like sibling love, but how does that fare if you're a twin? Beyonce's backing dancers, Laurent and Larry Bourgeois reveal the ins and outs of family life on the road. Childhood actress turned Hollywood star Jena Malone spills the beans on her fiery and unpredictable role as Johanna Mason in The Hunger Games. We also chat teenage crushes and obsession with Jaden Smith, the pop/ movie/ social media star rumoured to be dating a particular Jenner.

New York science writer Douglas Main explains the science behind falling in love; did you know that warm giddy feeling is actually an explosion of neurochemicals in the brain? And we ask what is love in the digital age? Has our networked society made lovesickness milder, or bitterer than ever? Love and drugs have fuelled music, art and politics since day dot, so what does our generations' preference for mood numbing drugs such as ketamine say about youth today? We also meet eight young London creatives to discover that special person who makes them tick, from lovers, best friends, pets and siblings. Every love affair has a soundtrack, what's yours?
