clap along with pharrell williams, CFDA’s fashion icon
“If cool was a person, it would be Pharrell. I cannot imagine anyone not seduced by him” – Diane Von Furstenberg
It was announced this morning that CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg and her board members have selected the handsome musician as their Fashion Icon for 2015. Celebrating an individual whose style has impacted popular culture worldwide, the award has previously been given to the likes of Kate Moss, Iman and Rihanna - with RiRi famously showing up in her custom-designed sheer Swarovski crystal dress last year to accept her title. Interestingly, Pharrell is only the second male to win the award, following fellow hat appreciator Johnny Depp back in 2012. Well known for his love of fashion, the producer is the co-founder of Billionaire Boys Club and has collaborated with brands like Adidas and Uniqlo as well as fronting Karl Lagerfeld's short film for Chanel last year with Cara and launching his G I R L fragrance with Comme de Garcons. "Walking into a Comme show is like walking into the garment version of Willy Wonker's factory," he said in conversation with i-D recently. In other news, in a surprise twist, the 2015 Media Award (usually awarded to an individual) goes to fashion favorite app royalty, Instagram.
The awards are due to take place at Lincoln Center on June 1st.
