Abel Tesfaye has deleted all of his Instagram posts, signaling a new era — and hopefully, a new album.

Normally your fave deleting all their Instagram photos is not a cause to celebrate, unless your fave is Abel Tesfaye. While the media-shy artist known as The Weeknd has never been the most prolific Instagrammer, he is one of the most cunning, in the past using the platform to tease new album drops not by posting a photo but by deleting literally everything from his page. This is why The Weeknd's 6.6 million Instagram followers are not reacting to his disappearing act in quite the same way that Beliebers did when their idol deleted his account last month.

The Weeknd has been dropping hints about his followup to 2015's Beauty Behind the Madness for a while now. In an interview with VMAN he suggested that the album had already been completed, that it's inspired by hardcore punk and 80s alt-rock, and that it sounds really, really good. "The production feels aggressive but still sexy," he revealed. "The Smiths, Bad Brains, Talking Heads, Prince, and DeBarge play roles. We wrote it all in Los Angeles. I think it'll be the best-sounding album I've ever done. It's hard to label the sound because, when I first came out, nobody would label it R&B. I just want to keep pushing the envelope without it feeling forced."

Instagram isn't the only place to stay tuned for album rumors. On September 2 the self-proclaimed King of the Fall cryptically tweeted three fall leaf emojis, followed by one leaf and a timer emoji 13 days later. Fall officially starts on September 22 — just two days away.
