In cultural diplomacy organisation Liberatum’s latest edition of their Lifesaving Conversation videos, tireless activist and total icon Sharon Stone talks to Dr Heval Kelli. In an emotional film, Stone talks to Dr Heval Kelli, who fled his homeland of Syria and is now one of first Kurdish American cardiologists in the history of the United States.

The pair discuss how refugees are the worst affected by the coronavirus pandemic, often lacking both homes or a state. “I am that refugee…,” says Dr Kelli. “Now I’m a doctor, you want me here, but not when I was 18 washing dishes”.

“That we do this to people, and we allow this to occur, is devastating,” notes Stone.

The aim of Lifesaving Conversations, a “cultural campaign with a direct humanitarian mission at its heart”, is to raise funds for food banks, humanitarian efforts and racial justice movements around the globe. Future episodes will feature Zoe Saldana, Chika, Saif Ali Khan, and more as they address some of society’s most pressing problems.

The conversation is in support of UNHCR.
