who run the world? beyoncé, taylor & miuccia prada
Music and fashion heavyweights join business leaders and politicians like Merkel and Clinton in a list of the world’s most powerful women.
Music mega stars Beyoncé and Taylor Swift join fashion heavyweights Miuccia Prada and Diane Von Furstenberg alongside female business leaders and politicians including German Chancellor Angela Merkel and US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, on the Forbes list of the 100 most powerful women in the world in 2015.
Beyoncé is number 21 overall and tops the "celebrity" section, which is perhaps a slightly dismissive title for the entertainment business heavyweights it groups, including actor and UN ambassador Angelina Jolie (54), musicians and philanthropists Taylor Swift (64) and Shakira (81), and Chinese actor and activist Yao Chen (82). The fashion and retail category includes Miuccia Prada (79) and Diane Von Furstenberg (75).
The very top spots are claimed by politicians and business women. Chancellor Merkel is named as the most powerful women in the world, a position she has held for nine of the 10 years she's been featured on the list. US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has appeared on the list every year since its inception 12 years ago, and is number 2 in 2015. Though if she wins the American election next year - with the high-profile support of Beyoncé - she is likely to knock Merkel off the top spot in 2016.
