Whether she meant to or not, Sky Ferreira has announced the name of her second full-length feature. After music blog MuuMuse did some seriously hardcore sleuthing and tweeted Ferriera with their guess, the 22-year-old singer confirmed the Night Time, My Time follow up is indeed titled Masochism.
In an interview with Billboard last year, Ferreira noted that she'd been working with Primal Scream's Bobby Gillespie and Andrew Innes—as well as her Night Time, My Time producers Ariel Rechtshaid and Justin Raisen—on some new material. After confirming the title, Sky again took to Twitter to provide a little clarity: "I've known the album title since last May (I was on a flight from Seattle to Dublin) & wrote the song onboard next to @SirJohnnyDanger [her keyboardist and producer.]" Although Ferreira hasn't confirmed any other album details, her fans are still pretty stoked.
A longtime David Lynch devotee, Ferreira's first album title lifts one of Lynch's lines: "Nighttime is my time," Twin Peaks bad girl Laura Palmer languorously mused in the series' prequel film Fire Walk With Me. Just last week, Sky performed a cover of Blue Velvet at The Music of David Lynch benefit concert in LA. Given the film's, well, masochistic elements, perhaps Ferreira's second effort might be taking its cues from Dorothy Vallens over Donna Hayward this time around.
