paris hilton is making a tell-all documentary... about paris hilton

An unflinching look at the new millennium's first self-made A-lister could be iconic.

So much has happened at Cannes, but perhaps only one thing really matters: the announcement that Paris Hilton is releasing a no-holds-barred documentary about herself. 9.14 Pictures, a production company specialising in documentaries, and XYZ Films will handle the project, which they're calling an "unflinching, authorized documentary."

Paris has released 17 branded product lines including 19 perfumes, multiple fashion lines and even hair extensions. Really a doco was the last thing left to put her name on. Filming is set to begin in Ibiza this year, so we suspect the film will deal with her new life as a DJ —she famously has full-sized nightclub in her home.

The production agencies describe the film as a look at her "complicated relationship with the public, the press and the politics that shape our perception of a modern celebrity." Certainly, Paris has been manipulated by the press, but she's manipulated them in turn. She played a character — not her authentic self — on the Simple Life, an act Broadly explored when they spent a few days trailing her. "If you're in on the joke, you know what you're doing, you're aware of it, and you're doing it purposefully, I think it's actually smart," she told the publication.

Outside of brief appearances on talk shows, we haven't seen the "real" Paris very often. If the documentary is as raw as it promised to be, we'll have a modern classic on our hands. Given she drops iconic one liners like "I invented getting paid to party" on daytime TV, one can only imagine what she'd bring to her own unscripted film.
