Last week, two suicides of trans people were reported on the very same day. On September 28, in Canada, 29-year-old beauty therapist Ryley Courchene reportedly took her own life. In America, 16-year-old activist Skylar Lee also ended his life. Their passing follows 16 trans suicides reported this year alone.

Foster Noone, a fellow community organiser, wrote a touching eulogy to Skylar, their friend.

Skylar Marcus Lee was a radical, young, Korean-American, genderfluid, queer organizer from Madison, Wisconsin. He was sarcastic and brilliant and genuine and sweet and wanted to heal the entire world.

Of all Trans and gender-non conforming people in North America, 41 percent have attempted suicide. In the UK the situation is similar. Pace, a mental health charity for the LGBT community reported in November last year that 8% of trans people under 26 had attempted suicide, and 30% said they had done so in the past year, while 59% said they had at least considered doing so.
