the new x-men have recruited a 'stranger things' star
Charlie Heaton is joining Maisie Williams and Anya Taylor-Joy for ‘New Mutants,’ the franchises' juicy new teen focused spin off.
Last month it was announced that Maisie Williams and Anya Taylor-Joy will be joining the X-Men universe in the latest spin-off series New Mutants. The project will follow a group of teenage mutants as they train to become superheroes. Now it looks like another bright young thing will be along for the ride: Stranger Things breakout Charlie Heaton has also signed on. He'll play Sam Guthrie, aka Cannonball, a kid who can shoot himself into the air and is invincible while up there. Certainly a departure from his sensitive Stranger Things character Jonathan Byers. Reports swirl that Rosario Dawson is talking about joining the gang too, she'd be playing a mentor to the teen superheroes in training.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the new offshoot will have more of a genre bent, by incorporating a horror element — something both Charlie and Anya are familiar with. Considering horror is having such a moment right now, it's a pretty cool idea. Additionally, in response to other conversations currently unfolding across the media, New Mutants will reportedly focus on diverse casting. This whole thing is just sounding better and better.
New Mutants is expected to be release April 2018.
