kung fu kenny leads the pack at this years uk music video awards
Sit down, other music videos. Be humble.
The nominees for this year's UK Music Video Awards have been announced and i-D will be there to select the winner of Best Styling in a Video. Staged for the third time at London's legendary Roundhouse on 26 October, the annual celebration of creativity in music video making will see i-D HQ stereo regulars Frank Ocean and Kendrick Lamar battle it out alongside Beck, Rosalía, Police Dog Hogan and The Blaze.
Kung Fu Kenny leads the way as the most nominated act overall, with seven nods for ELEMENT. and HUMBLE., while Mercury Prize winner Sampha picks up four, including two for album film Process. Jay-Z's promos for The Story Of OJ and Moonlight have both been nominated for awards in the international and professional craft categories, while Charli XCX racks up two her self-directed video for Boys (read our piece on what it would be like to date every single one of them here).
"It's been a remarkable year for music videos in many ways and the nominations at this year's UK Music Video Awards prove it," says The UK Music Video Awards editorial director, David Knight, in a strongly worded press release. "Music videos are so important as a medium of expression for music artists now that we're seeing the conventional idea of the music video being tested and stretched by some of the world's most popular artists."
He continues: "Music videos are intrinsically a celebration of the music that they visualise, and the UK Music Video Awards is a celebration of the best music videos and performances, simple as that. It's the biggest of its kind in the world and we look forward to welcoming music video makers from all over the world to the Roundhouse on October 26th. It's going to be a great night."
