In 2000 Melbourne band The Avalanches released Frontier Psychiatrist, an album that arguably defined and popularised the mash-up, turntablist genre that would dominate through the decade. It was fun, funny, danceable, smart and totally adored. Almost as soon as it was released fans began clamouring for a follow up. 16 years later, the prodigal sophomore album has become the stuff of Australian music folklore.

Every few years a rumour emerges that the band are recording, hanging out, someone's friend's sister's boyfriend heard a track or the whole thing was scrapped and they're starting again.

But this week, Noisey posted a mysterious teaser video that suggests the wait could finally be over. Part trailer, part history lesson, Since They Left Us (a riff on the group's track Since I Left You) features footage of Danny BrownFather John MistyKirin J. Callinan, Royal Trux's Jennifer Herrema and Ariel Pink talking about the new album. Although even they seem to feel it's too good to be true, Jennifer Herrema quips: "It's been fifteen years since the first, last and only Avalanches record, I will believe it when I see it." Call us crazy, but we're ready to believe this is it.
