Croydon dude Yip Wong aka Deft has been bubbling away on the low for some time now. He seems to be able to lend his versatile hand to many styles of music and as LL Cool J probably once said about him, he's doin' it well.

From footwork to hip hop, halfstep drum and bass, even through to more techno and house lead offerings, Deft has got it all in the locker. Starting off life his musical career as a drummer, the musician drifted away from the dubstep scene that the town was so synonymous with and establish his own signature style.

With releases on the likes of Project Mooncircle, Space Hardware, Rwina, Brownwood and WotNot, Deft makes his debut on Ivy Lab's 20/20 LDN label. The Blackest EP shows off darker edge of the producers sword, with three intricate, bass-laden cuts inspired by his love of the early beats scene.

Now, we welcome Deft into the mix for i-D. Keeping you on your toes in constant flux between feeling settled and unsettled, the mix journeys through ambient vibes, head nodding hip hop instrumentals, groove-laden house, and gritty jungle. Turn it up.
