Pussy Riot's Maria Alyokhina announced to Artnet, this week their plans to open the New Balkan Women's Museum, a space by women, for women, about women. Since they were thrown into the public eye for their Putin-denouncing, incarceration-resulting Moscow performance of Punk Prayer in 2013, the collective have been busy making waves and change.

Now, working with friend and collaborator, art dealer Marat Guelman, their Montenegro museum will provide women with a safe space to express themselves freely. "In the media, in public spaces" explains Maria, "a lot of people are just scared to say what they really are thinking. Because if you do it, you are going to prison". The project will only employ women, and only show the work of female artists, because the point raised by the Guerilla Girls back in the 80s that women have to be naked to get into museums is still ridiculous.
