rinse festival cancels headliner azealia banks after offensive twitter tirade
The Harlem rapper will no longer appear at London’s Born & Bred Festival in June after attacking Zayn Malik with racial slurs.
UK festival Rinse has confirmed that Azealia Banks has been cancelled from its headlining slot at Born & Bred festival in June after a Twitter tirade that saw her denounce UK rap and the grime scene, tweet thoroughly unpleasant things to American child actor Skai Jackson and, worst of all, launch an extended attack on Zayn Malik full of shockingly offensive racial slurs.
In an image posted across its social media channels, Rinse states: "We have decided to cancel Azealia Banks' headline appearance at Rinse | Born & Bred Festival. Rinse | Born & Bred is a celebration of rave culture and has been created for EVERYONE. We celebrate inclusivity and equality."
Props to Rinse for such swift and decisive action. People who spout racial slurs should have no place in the UK music scene, or anywhere.
Rinse | Born & Bred Festival has a stellar line-up including Newham Generals, iLoveMakonnen, Wiley + Slimzee, Novelist, Lady Leshurr, Jammer, So Solid Crew, Benga and A.G. Cook. The festival is held at Haggerston Park over the first weekend in June. See you down the front!
