Alber Elbaz left some monumentally chic shoes to fill when he left the helm of Lanvin last October. But the French fashion house may have found just the woman to fill them — or at least to start a brand new chapter in Lanvin History. WWD is reporting that Lanvin is close to finalizing a contact with Bouchra Jarrar, while both parties have declined to comment.

Jarrar is hardly a household name. The Moroccan-born couture designer is certainly one of the industry's underrated if not unheralded talents when it comes to flawless tailoring. Over the past few years her namesake line has been minimal on the flashy eveningwear that might otherwise have sounded alarm bells that she was in talks for the top position at Lanvin (or Dior). But in a season of seismic shifts in the French fashion landscape, with Vetements/Balenciaga's Demna Gvasalia heading up a pack of young talents edging out the old guard, this latest rumored appointment makes sense. And if there's anyone who can be as versed in a woman's body as the legendary Elbaz, it's an actual woman.
