While it might be one of the biggest and most exclusive events of the year, attending the Met Gala is just the beginning of the night for most attendees. After they’ve graced the red carpet, and wined and dined, many of the guests then head on to a fabulous afterparty.

Hosting one this year was Virgil Abloh, who took over glitzy Italian eatery Carbone in New York to keep the night going. By the looks of things, it was a whole vibe. Among the A-listers in attendance, many still decked out in their Met Gala attire, were Kid Cudi, Jack Harlow, Pete Davidson, Kendall Jenner, Zack Bia and Heron Preston, with the latter two joining Virgil on the decks throughout the night.

Playing live music was Virgil’s favourite band, Canadian jazz troupe BadBadNotGood. You may have seen a video from Virgil’s Instagram of Kid Cudi and A$AP Nast joining the group for an impromptu freestyle jam session.

The after party also became a mini-celebration for Virgil when a huge tiered cake, decorated with action figures and enough sparklers to be a fire hazard, was brought out to mark his birthday later this month.

Unfortunately, we weren’t there IRL (our invite must have gotten lost somewhere along the way). But Jacob Consenstein was, and as the only photographer in attendance, he had full access to this absolutely wild event. Below he shares his snaps exclusively with i-D.
