gold fir are the mysterious musical duo to watch out for
Meet Mabel and James (sort of)
Gold Fir is the dreamy new musical duo, simply known as Mabel and James. Not ones to reveal a lot about themselves (they're both from London), the long-time friends formed when they realised they shared the same musical taste and song-writing sensibilities. Even their name is mysterious. "Gold Fir can mean many different things," the muse, "to us it can be fun, funky, sassy, serious, sad and amusing." But for Mabel and James, it's more about the music, anyway. Speaking of, the duo are currently working on their forthcoming EP. If it's anything like the freshly released track Night Walk, a slick 80s inspired offering with a lot of sass and soul, you're sure to be in for a big treat.
What's the story behind Gold Fir?
We've known each other for a very long time as friends, we have been writing songs together for years merging our similar and contrasting tastes. When we became aware that both of us were enjoying writing more and more, and found a collective sound, Gold Fir was born. Gold Fir can mean many different things, to us it can be fun, funky, sassy, serious, sad and amusing. It's about trying to be bold and to enjoy the writing process as much as possible so Gold Fir can take over.
How would you describe your overall aesthetic?
Ever evolving, inclusive, whole-hearted grooves.
Who or what inspires you?
Many things. Musicians, places, friends, films. We have a broad range of tastes, which we try to incorporate.
London based animator and director Jack Brown collaborated with you on the video for Night Walk, what was the concept behind it?
The video is a celebration of the nighttime and the vibrancy and energy that comes with it. The concept is to seamlessly mix 2D hand drawn animation with digitally filmed environments. You never know what could happen!
If you could form a supergroup with anyone dead or alive, who would it be and why?
Amy Winehouse, amazing songwriter and best singer that we have been around to hear. Bez on maracas.
First album you ever bought?
Thriller - Michael Jackson.
What song gets you on the dancefloor?
Nomalizo - Letta Mbulu.
Thong Song - Sisqo.

What are your hopes and dreams for the future?
To just keep on writing developing our sound and enjoy what we're doing. We enjoy collaborating so looking to find musicians who want to contribute to the Gold Fir sound, and world peace.
