The Director of the Cannes Film Festival, Theirry Frémaux, has announced, "We are waging a campaign to slow down the contemporary practice of selfies on the red carpet and the steps. Beyond what we think, it's a practice that's often extremely ridiculous and grotesque." Frémaux said that whilst selfies haven't been fully banned, they're discouraged because of the problem they pose for getting the stars up the red carpet on time. Whilst we admire the French organizers for swimming against the tide, it seems unlikely that they'll stop the inevitable flow of the selfie century.
