Unsurprisingly, Lorde makes for the perfect soundtrack to our favourite nihilistic teenage runaway drama in this fan-made cut.

Lorde’s seminal sophomore album Melodrama was the disaffected teenager anthem we've been needing since our first Red Stripe was drunk on a park bench mid-winter. Nihilistic but self-aware, moving and magical; the album contemplates heartbreak, anxiety and the trials and tribulations of adolescence with a candour and relatability we hadn’t experienced since, well, Pure Heroine and little-known, debut single Royals. Nine months later and my jaded 25-year-old heart still beats with the passion of a 1000 unread MSN messages with every punctuated moment of silence in the main verse of Supercut.

So, given all this, it’s hardly surprising that one of the record’s standout tracks, Hard Feelings/Loveless, makes for a compelling soundtrack to a compilation of everyone’s favourite teenage runaway Netflix-binge, End of the Fucking World. In fact, the tracks opening verse – “Guess this is the winter/Our bodies are young and blue/I’m at Jungle City, it’s late and this song is for you” – sounds like it might just be the special edition box-set series description.

Taking in the dizzying heights and triumphant lows of James and Alyssa’s escape from their homogenous, sleepy suburban home-counties-cul-de-sac town, the show and the song are a perfect marriage of wide-lens shots and apathetic lyrics. Not to mention the lingering looks. The empty beaches. The kitch diners. The awkward fumbling. The elating escapes. The tears. The flames. YouTube user Just Some Videos – thank you – we needed this. Tbh we’ve reached peak 2018, and it’s only mid-Feb. See for yourself.
