girls cast to get the simpsons treatment
Earlier this year, Entertainment Weekly reported that Lena Dunham was set to appear in The Simpsons' season 27 premiere as Candace, the funny, young pharmacist who starts a budding romance with Homer after Marge files for divorce. Yesterday, the show's executive producer, Al Jean, confirmed that Dunham's dysfunctional squad will put its Kanye West-karaokeing, Baggage-watching, sidewalk pissing antics on hold and make the trek to Springfield.
"We're having a Girls reunion, even though Girls is still on the air," Jean told EW. Yup, Jemima Kirke, Zosia Mamet, and Allison Williams will voice Candace's friends, a clique less than impressed with their girl's new bae. "They're asking her the question that anybody normally would: 'Why Homer?' — fulfilling the role that Patty and Selma [Marge's highly critical, chain smoking twin sisters] have played on the show all these years," Jean added.
As America's longest running primetime sitcom (26 years and counting), The Simpsons are no strangers to TV crossovers, which have included a particularly knockout X Files-themed episode and a deeply regrettable Family Guy mashup. Although the ladies won't be appearing precisely as their Girls characters, we're hoping that Shoshanna's penchant for side ponies and peplum won't be lost.
The Simpsons is back on the air from September 27. Word is still out whether Bart's surly twin classmates Sherri and Terri will in turn be sipping green juices in Greenpoint as guests on the next season of Girls.
