thames & hudson announce new book, fashion china
Get to know China's burgeoning fashion scene in Gemma A. Williams' new book, out next spring.
Fashion China is the new publication from Thames & Hudson, that covers everything it says on the tin. The world of Chinese fashion is a hotbed of creativity influenced by the countries rich culture, but because of the language barrier, it is often overlooked. The 41 brands featured in Fashion China have been chosen by author Gemma A. Williams alongside a panel of industry insiders and experts, with over 350 illustrations showing the cutting edge of the contemporary Chinese fashion scene. Despite it's prominence in fashion's luxury market and its fame for manufacturing as well as consuming, you'd find it hard to roll the names of any Chinese fashion designers off the tongues of the West. Hoping to raise China's fashion scene to the same level as the global industry, Gemma's interviewed the likes of Huishan Zhang, Uma Wang and Qiu Hao, who all studied at Central St Martins, about their training, inspirations and outlook, as well as how they're appealing to a more global audience.
"Fashion has always been about sharing art and culture and this book will be a great reflection of what China has to offer," says Beijing-born supermodel and i-D cover star, Liu Wen in the book.
