grimes talks fashion, sustainability and friendship in new stella mccartney film
A pink-haired Grimes becomes the latest musician to speak out on sustainability in fashion, in a short film for Stella McCartney's Pop fragrance.
There's been a lot of talk about sustainability in fashion recently, as last week's Fashion Revolution Week called for a more ethically sound and sustainable fashion system. In addition, M.I.A. has partnered up with H&M for their Global Recycle Week reaching out for unwanted garment donations from the public to create recycled textile fibres for new products.
Now, a pink-haired Grimes is the latest to touch on the subject. In a short ad for Stella McCartney's latest fragrance POP, Grimes says, "Sustainability in fashion is something that I really care about; that's one of the reasons I like Stella so much". McCartney is known for her strong views on sustainability and ethical fashion, refusing to use fur or animal skins in her designs and increasing the use of recycled materials, working with various organisations to ensure the use of sustainably certified materials.
On the Stella McCartney website, it shares that Grimes, "refuses to compromise on anything ethically or artistically" making her the perfect collaborator for POP. In the hazy pastel-washed ad, Grimes also discusses her thoughts on friendship, "I actually feel like my friends are the best because they always tell me when my shit sucks. I take what they say into consideration more than anyone else, probably. I mean, I think friendship is important to all non-sociopaths..! I guess humans need friendship to live".
