In i-D’s latest series of Beyond Beauty, tattoo artist and activist Grace Neutral is back exploring individual expressions of beauty. This time Grace travels to São Paulo, Brazil to explore the disparity between the overriding mainstream beauty standards the marginalised underground scene rebelling against them. In the second episode, our favourite tattoo-covered alien princess meets a brave new generation of young black women challenging racial discrimination - redefining the city's beauty ideals through the Afro Hair Movement and reclaiming their cultural identity. From a former beauty queen who was stripped of her crown for being too dark skinned to exploring a range of creatives changing the cultural landscape in the favelas - Grace discovers the women expressing individual beauty.
