Current i-D cover star Frank Ocean celebrated his 30th birthday in brilliant style over the weekend. Taking cues from Paris Is Burning, the classic documentary about NYC ball culture, Frank cut into an Eiffel Tower shaped cake and hosted a scalding walk-off. Long a fan of the New York ball scene, the artist sampled legendary queen Crystal LeBeija on his track Ambience 001.

In those glimmering Gucci crystal pants that have proven a season favourite, Frank walked against Drag Race alum Gia Gunn. Later Tyler, the Creator gave the runway his all. SZA and Aminé were there too, of course.

Last week, Frank photographed two covers for i-D's Sounding Off Issue, and contributed 32 pages of photographs plus a personal essay. Happy Birthday, Frank. Love you more each day.
