8 reasons why solange is the boss

With her recent appointment as a Kiehl's Pioneer, we take a look at more of the many reasons we can't get enough of Solange.

As the sister of one of the most famous people on the planet, Solange Knowles has never lived in Beyonce's shadow. She is a unique, inspirational creative force who makes awesome music and who's apparently not once in her life put together a bad outfit. We'll never know why she really beat up Jay-Z in the lift at the Met Gala that time, but the fact that she's not to be messed with elevates her (pun intended) even higher in our opinion. Here are just some of the reasons we love her.

1. She wakes up with rainbows on her face.
I woke up like this! When you're Solange, this happens.

2. Her jazz-inspired dance routine around a stylised mini mall for her dreamy song 'Lovers in the Parking Lot'.
Everything about this music video is awesome. It's like a well-choreographed suburban dream with metalic hot pants, perfect afros and cameo dance spots by Houston rap legend, Bun B. Solange co-directed the video as part of Vice's the Creators Project and you can watch the 'making of' it here

3. She is one of Kiehl's 'Pioneers by Nature' partners involved in raising $150,000 for children and the environment.
Kiehl's asked Solange, along with a number of other creatives including Phillip Lim, Rachel Zoe, Dustin Yellin, to partner in a campaign and interactive exhibit that brings their pioneering story to life. Solange created a one-off sound installation and helped raise money for a great cause.

4. She is a devoted aunty to Beyonce and Jay-Z's baby, Blue.
The caption to accompany this Instagram post went, "My twin, my fellow sassy pants, my dancing partner, my incredibly smart, beautiful, niece-y-poo, turns 3 today! I love her so much." And, melt.

5. She just made a collab with Puma genuinely incredible.
In a move which immediately raised the bar for brand collaborations everywhere, Solange, Puma's creative consultant, just launched her third collection campaign for Puma by celebrating powerful, clever, innovative women. She shot the suede kicks on 14 stunning women from different backgrounds and interviewed each. This is how you make us want to wear your shoes!

6. The time she danced with her son at her own wedding.
Not just any dance but an impressive choreographed dance to 'No Flex Zone' by Rae Sremmurd.

7. She occasionally sleeps in a mirrored cube tree house and eats moose meatballs.
As her caption on Instagram explains, "Yesterday I: Slept in this mirror tree house, Ate Moose meatballs, Bathed in the northern lights (The sun never set!), Climbed a UFO into the sky with my son, Sang Brandy songs with my bestie @msmelina. Yesterday was good to me."

8. She released 'Losing You', our favourite song of three years ago, which we love as much to this day.
Written with Dev Hynes, filmed in Cape Town and featuring the region's dapper Les Sapeurs, Solange's clip for 'Losing You' is so good it makes you want to cry. She's describes it as being "eclectic with '80s references and African percussion influences." We describe it as the moment we realised our earthly limitations.
