This morning in Paris, male model and Rick Owens regular Jera took to the runway at Owens' spring/summer 16 menswear show and unravelled a piece of white fabric that read "Please Kill Angela Merkel - Not". If you weren't at the show, you'd be forgiven for missing it, as NOW Fashion and other catwalk photography sites removed the message from their images. However, pictures filtered onto social media from the front rows and the house of Rick Owens have now issued an official statement that reads: "Rick Owens does not claim responsibility for the act of protest by a model at the Spring Summer 2016 show. This was an independent statement and does not reflect the opinion of the house of Rick Owens."

It is being reported by WWD that Owens said backstage, "It's a crazy, rogue, fucking model that I punched when he came back out... Please say that I punched him." Known for casting models with personality and strongly held beliefs, it isn't a wonder that youth politics cropped up on the runway. When i-D spoke to Rick last year, speaking about his casting, he told us that, "We know that we embrace weirdos and we are always looking for that thing, that little extra thing that is not going to appeal to most design houses. We like to provoke a little bit."

The sentiment of Jera's statement reflects anti-capitalist protests that took place in Frankfurt and around Germany earlier this year, and comes on the last day of the Greek bailout talks - led by Merkel, where an agreement still hasn't been reached and it is looking likely that the country will be declared bankrupt tomorrow.
