fashion week photographers dress in blue in tribute to bill cunningham
Over 75 photographers wore the iconic blue jacket on the first day of New York Fashion Week.
At this season's New York Fashion Week, there is one person who will be truly missed. Bill Cunningham, godfather of street-style photography and worldwide icon, sadly passed away earlier this year at age 87. During his 40-year career documenting sidewalk, underground, and runway fashion for The New York Times, Cunningham could always be spotted in the crowd, donning a bright-blue workman's jacket. Now, at the first New York Fashion Week without him, an ocean of over 75 fashion photographers paid homage to legendary Cunningham, all wearing a version of his trademark bright-blue workman's jacket. Bill allegedly started wearing the £15 jacket after seeing them at a hardware store during Paris Couture week, the pockets being the perfect size to carry extra rolls of film.
Catherine Bennett, the managing director of IMG Fashion, shared "Though he's no longer with us, Bill Cunningham's legacy lives on. We see his influence every day on the streets of New York, and we miss him. As New York Fashion Week kicks off, we acknowledge this incredible man through the individuals who will carry on his passion for life and love of fashion."
