Obviously Kendrick and SZA’s video for All the Stars is brilliant. The Dave Meyers & the little homies-directed visual -- the latter being Kendrick’s directorial alias -- for Marvel’s Black Panther is deeply important and a beautiful celebration of black excellence. But not to Lina Iris Viktor, whose artwork entitled Constellations appears to rock up in the music video around the three minute mark without any acknowledgement, approval or attempt to collaborate, according to the artist. The issue has been described by Viktor's lawyer, Christopher Robinson, as an ethical one, as he detailed in an statement to The New York Times: “What the whole film purports is that it's about black empowerment, African excellence -- that's the whole concept of the story. And at the same time, they're stealing from African artists.” Yikes.
