#thedress debate wages on across the internets

Introducing the dress that’s divided the world, as well as the Kimye marital bed.

It's been the biggest philosophical debate chicken vs. the egg. #TheDress, as it is now referred to, was first spotted by a blogger named Swiked, who turned to Tumblr for help when she and her friends had a major disagreement over the colour of this dress (it's white and gold, right?) And boy did Tumblr respond, as did some of your favorite celebrities.

Over in the blue and black corner there's pop brat Justin Bieber, HRH Yeezy himself, and America's sweetheart Taylor Swift, while in the white and gold corner there's newfound Oscar winner Julianne Moore, model of the moment Cara Delevingne (who has an army of Delevingners behind her…), and Queen of all Selfies, Kim Kardashian. Yep, that's right, not even Kimye can agree! According to the people who designed the dress, it is in fact blue and black, and the reason why some perceive it as white and gold has to do with the way you perceive light. If the blue cones in your eyes aren't receiving light, the only colors you will see is a combination of red and green, the result of which is a gold-like yellow. And because you can only perceive black when your blue cones receive light, the color you will be left with will be white i.e the absence of black. Get it? Other crackpot theories also include: computer screen variations, and your general level of optimism (white dresses are positive). Let the debate wage on.
