UNBOUND, the Instagram mini series based on Blackstar, the last album David Bowie released during his lifetime (though perhaps not the last ever, if rumours are to be believed) kicked off today. The series began filming before Bowie's passing and had his blessing.

The first of 16 episodes has the title track Blackstar playing as the camera pans across a darkly lit library room; a nod perhaps to Bowie's love of reading -- he reportedly got through around three books a week throughout his adult life. There's someone selecting from the shelves, a woman perhaps teaching a boy to read, and right at the end, our first glimpse of Tavi Gevinson.

A post on the InstaMiniSeries account explains that, "In the Fall of 2015, David Bowie gave us unique pre-release access to the music from ★ (pronounced Blackstar), his 28th studio album, allowing us to create our own visual interpretations of his songs, with no limits or preconditions on his part. Completed in December 2015, UNBOUND: A ★ InstaMiniSeries takes the audience on a journey of evocative images inspired by the moods suggested in the album's music, lyrics and artwork. Each episode of the series is sure to capture the imaginations of all who experience it and will undoubtedly lead to endless speculation and discussion of meaning, metaphor and intention," adding that new episodes will be released every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
