Two designers are better than one, if the results in the Breakthrough Talent section of the WGSN Global Fashion Awards 2015 are anything to go by. Young London design duos Marques'Almedia and Agi & Sam both took home awards at a fancy ceremony at the Park Lane Hotel in Mayfair last night.

Beforte sitting down for dinner, i-D joined menswear designer Liam Hodges and womenswear designer Faustine Steinmetz, who were both up for the same award, the Avery Dennison RBIS Emerging Brand prize. Hodges joked that, "If Faustine wins, I'm doing a Kanye!", but in the end, it didn't come to that, as haute denim destroyers Marques'Almedia took home the award, which includes a £13,000 prize. Paulo Almeida told i-D, "It's a very big surprise actually, we were not prepared to win it; we feel very honoured," adding that, "Now we're going to hopefully start doing Resort, so there's a lot of work to be done for this summer."

Agi Mdumulla collected the Breakthrough Menswear Designer award for Agi & Sam, telling i-D, "It feels amazing to win, I wasn't expecting it at all, it's feels lovely to have that recognition from the industry, and globally as well is quite phenomenal". Sam was at home ill, but according to Agi he was following the awards online, "He text me before I text him - he said 'Congratulations to us'." Despite Sam feeling poorly, Agi said that in the run up to London Collections: Men next month they are, "more on target than we've ever been before… but we're still working all hours."

There wasn't a lot of room for Brits-style antics at the awards, as winners were not allowed to give speeches - with 22 awards to get through, we would have been there all night. But Girls Aloud's Nicola Roberts used her on-mic moment to tell WGSN she wanted to hear people thank their mums and dogs, leading her to be branded a "punk" by presenter Nick Grimshaw. She wasn't disappointed for long as Sophia Webster grabbed the mic on winning the Breakthrough Footwear and Accessories Designer award to thanks Roberts herself, poetically, for being the first celebrity to wear her shoes. Later, Webster told i-D, "It's a great thing to win; WGSN look for who's setting the trends, so we're honoured. I've had a really great year; we've grown a lot, so to be recognised for that is a really great thing".

The party continued into the night with cocktails by Mahiki and some serious dancefloor moves from Liam Hodges.
