Not even a week after the surprising announcement that Raf Simons will not be renewing his contract with Dior, a report from the industry publication WWD suggests that another storied French fashion house will soon announce a departure: Alber Elbaz is rumored to be leaving Lanvin after 14 years at the helm. Members of the design team are said to have been informed of Elbaz's exit this morning, and an all-company meeting has been called this afternoon in Paris.

The oldest French fashion house in constant operation, Lanvin was transformed by Israeli designer Elbaz when he took the reins in 2001, making his jewel-toned silk draping and heavy jewelry so recognizable that a high street collaboration with H&M ensued.

Just last month, Lanvin opened an exhibition described as an "attempt to see the workings of the dream machine of Alber Elbaz," following on from a hugely successful retrospective of founder Jeanne Lanvin at the Palais Gailliera in Paris last year.

The fashion merry-go-round is back with a vengeance, and Elbaz's sudden departure from Lanvin will fuel speculation that he is a candidate to succeed Simons at Dior.
