danny boyle confirms that a 'trainspotting' sequel is in the works
Just in time for the original’s 20 year anniversary, the legendary director is getting the band back together.
Fans of 1996 cinema classic Trainspotting will soon have a sequel on their hands if director Danny Boyle gets his way. The film, based on Irvine Welsh's novel of the same name, has remained a cult hit for 20 years. Speaking from the Teluride Film Festival in Colorado, Danny said all of four of the much loved original's main actors were eager to reprise their roles. Yes, that includes Ewan McGregor. "Now it is only a matter of getting all their schedules together which is complicated by two of them doing American TV series."
Two years earlier, Danny confirmed that the film's screenwriter was adapting Irvine Welsh's own sequel, Porno, for the screen. Suffice to say, the director is spending a lot of time thinking about drugs, sex, and bodily fluids. Although who knows what could have happened in 20 years. Maybe Rent Boy will return a balding business man, trying to understand his teenage kids, reconnect with his estranged wife, and get a good deal on a pre-owned station wagon.
The follow-up is scheduled for release in 2016, marking the 20 year anniversary of Trainspotting's premier.
