Melbourne Fashion Week have just unveiled their 2018 program and you can consider us excited. Over eight days (August 31 – September 7) M/FW will take over the city celebrating the best of Australian fashion, from the established designers we know and love to the exciting emerging talents carving out the future.
For this year's campaign M/FW tapped eminent Australian fashion photographer Georges Antoni to snap Melbourne's captivating young faces, buoyant amongst a cityscape of rooftops. M/FW also enlisted the sensual and surreal mind of Ribal Hosn to create an ethereal short film pulls you in to its enchanting trance.
Below we get to know the faces of this year's campaign as we ask them about their dreams, figurative and literal.
What's your dream modelling job? Walking for Alexander McQueen. He’s one of the biggest inspirations for me and I love everything he stood for, how he challenged stereotypes through fashion. What would be your dream job if you weren't a model? I’d be a fashion designer with my own label. Do you have any recurring dreams, if so what happens? I have this one recurring dream of a witch, which is my grandma, who comes to visit and protect me. She gives me rosemary and sage and urges me to protect my home and myself. What is a dream you can still remember? I was walking alone on a really long dirt road and snakes keep coming on the path and following me. It’s super hot and no one is around, I have no idea where I am and I’m so lost. Eventually, exhausted, I lean on what I think is a fence, but it turns into a fence of snakes of different colours and they all bite me, then I wake up.
What’s your dream modelling job? I have always wanted to shoot for Acronym. What is your dream job if you weren't a model? I would love to work as a designer. I make jewellery and would definitely like to work in the fashion industry. Do you have any recurring dreams, if so what happens? I used to work at Revolver and I used to quite regularly dream that whilst on shift another bussie found a 500 Euro note. The dream was always so vivid, I could smell Revs. What is a dream you can still remember? The earliest dream I can remember is one of me in my primary school. For some reason there was a force field protecting the school from an asteroid shower; everyone had to come to the school to stay safe. Next minute the apple trees in the school courtyard birthed these giant flies that were ravenous and deadly and teachers were gunning them down with laser beams.
What's your dream modelling job? Anything with Miu Miu. I love their clothes and the vibe of their previous campaigns. What would be your dream job if you weren't a model? I am very interested in photography, I often find myself taking photographs in-between castings or on the weekends. I also like observing the photographers while I’m on set, so maybe photography would be a good direction for me. Do you have any recurring dreams, if so what happens? I have a recurring dream where my grandma is trying to talk to me. But when I wake up I have such a blurred memory of the dream that I can’t figure out what it might mean. What is a dream you can still remember? I dreamt that I went to Harry Styles concert and met him afterwards. Life complete!
What’s your dream modelling job? Definitely scoring a campaign for a luxury fashion house, such as Saint Laurent. Another dream job would be shooting a kooky but timeless cover story on location, somewhere like Madagascar. What is your dream job if you weren't a model? It would be a dream come true to be a world renowned food critic. Do you have any recurring dreams, if so what happens? I often have dreams of things that I want to happen for me in the future, such as travelling the world or walking in some of the most prestigious shows overseas. What is a dream you can still remember? I still remember a lucid dream I had not long ago where I had an outer body experience. I could literally see myself asleep in bed and go off anywhere that my mind took me.
What’s your dream modelling job? To have a contract with Dior. And Moncler. What is your dream job if you weren't a model? My dream job was to become a real estate agent. Do you have any recurring dreams, if so what happens? That I would be modelling for high-end brands and living in the rainforest with a lot of animals. What is a dream you can still remember? The one dream I can still remember was that I really wanted to be a zookeeper.
