jennifer lawrence to play american spy who became fidel castro's lover
She's attached to star in Marita, a film about a woman who's been described as "a new Jane Bond".
Fresh from earning her fourth Oscar nomination for her performance as Joy Mangano, the woman who invented the Miracle Mop, Jennifer Lawrence has lined up another extremely intriguing role. According to The Hollywood Reporter (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/jennifer-lawrence-play-fidel-castros-855630), she's attached to star in a film about Maria Lorenz, a German-born American spy who had an affair with Fidel Castro. American Hustle's Eric Warren Singer has written the script for the film, simply titled Marita, which will tell the story of a woman who's been described as "a new Jane Bond" and "a patron saint of conspiracy buffs".
After having an affair with Castro in 1959, during which she fell pregnant and had an abortion, Lorenz was recruited by the C.I.A. to assassinate the controversial Cuban leader the following year. According to legend, she was still in love with Castro at the time and sabotaged the mission by telling him his life was in danger. Lorenz, now 76 and living in Maryland, also claims to have had dealings with Lee Harvey Oswald while he was plotting the assassination of John F. Kennedy in 1963, but a US court later deemed her testimony about the plot unreliable. She's an altogether fascinating and complicated-sounding woman, so is it too soon to predict another Oscar nomination for J-Law?
