Where are you from?
I'm from Inwood, NY.

What do you do?
I bartend and I work with a program that helps kids with disabilities lead more affluent lives.

What would you like to do more of?
I would like to use my imagination more so I can be more creative. I would also love to travel wayyy more than I do now.

What's the best thing about living in New York?
The best thing about living in NY is the convenience of being able to take the train anywhere...And of course the different cultures you encounter in different parts of the city.

What are you listening to?
I listen to anything that has a good beat...but right now I listen to ODB, Missy Elliott, Erykah Badu, Little Dragon, FKA twigs, Tribe Called Quest, Gucci Mane, Kanye West, Father, Major Lazer, Dej Loaf, SBTRKT... a lot of shit lol.

How would you define your style?
My style can be defined as whatever I find if I happen to like it...and it fits. I put stuff together according to my mood I guess.

Who would be your dream date?
It would be cool to go on a date with Josh Coleman or Ricki Hall... if and only if they're not taken at the moment.

If you could change one thing about the world what would it be?
If I could change one thing about the world it would be to clear the existence of ignorance. I believe ignorance is the root to the many issues in the world. If the world had a better understanding of how to respect and care for others and nature it would be a better world.

Who or what inspires you?
Many things inspire me...hearing others making progressive changes in their lives inspires me.

What did you do this weekend?
I had an opening for an artist last night - an audiovisual installation. Openings are fun, but nothing beats spending time alone with the work.

What's the best thing about living in New York?
I think it's the people that make New York great, those carving out an alternate kind of life here, who get involved and make it a genuine community, creative people that inject cool into the city - not take the cool out of it.

What are you listening to?
What am I not listening to?! My spotify speed dial currently features Basinski, Black Milk, Cat Power, Collarbones, HTRK, Jeff Buckley, Joan as Policewoman, Mac DeMarco, New Order, PJ Harvey, Pyramid Vritra, Radiohead, Slumvillage, Tears for Fears, The Smiths... The list goes on...

How do you define your style?
I guess tomboy-ish. I'm pretty practical, living in blundstones and denim shorts a lot of the time particularly during installing and deinstalling shows. But when I need to dress up I smarten up my style, if there was a fire in my apartment I would snatch up my latest investments; a David Michael boyfriend coat, my Rag & Bone hat and a vintage velvet skirt I got at Bondi markets and my suede moccasins... together that would make for a very strange outfit, but you can get away with all sorts of crazy shit in this town that you'd be judged for in Australia. They barely batt an eyelid over anything here.

Are you in love?
I'm in therapy, does that count?

What one thing would you change about the world?
I'd change the way people perceive their opinion as the only valid and worthy one. Everyone would be empowered by empathy. Conflict wouldn't escalate out of control... How nice that would be.

Who or what inspires you?
Every artist I choose to work with inspires me. I learn about them and I learn from them every day.

What are you listening to?
Currently, a lot of jazz. I took a music course this semester and have since been listening nonstop to Nina Simone, Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Monk, Count Basie, and the like.

How would you define your style?
A little too 'school girl' lately but lots of skirts, button ups, sweaters, docs and brogues. I always have to be comfortable and cozy but am admittedly a bit indulgent in dark colors.

I'm trying to! I study environmental engineering at school.

What are you listening to?
I try and be as diverse as I can, I just bought a Parisian electro swing album on iTunes.

How would you define your style?
Fairly rocker but simple, texture is my favourite thing to play with, if I'm wearing a fuzzy sweater there have got to be spikes or studs somewhere else.

Are you in love?
Maybe, it's a tragic thing to try and maintain relationships when you don't know what country you'll be in next week.

If you could change one thing about the world what would it be?
I would get rid of a lot of cell phones capabilities. I hate how self centered it makes everyone, and how one is forced to be available all the time. I'm a little frightened to see what will happen when people my age, the smartphone generation, get to the point where they have families.

Name?
Lauren.

Age?
28.

Where are you from?
When I was ten-days-old, my father moved us to St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands, where I spent most of my childhood. I learned from my mother how to tempt the olive-colored iguanas down from their tree-beds with hibiscus flowers, be in blue saltwater with my father as he dove for queen conch, held them by their gleaming lips as he came up to the surface.

What do you do?
I am a poet, before I am anything else.

What are you listening to?
Sounds that are melancholic, swollen and sodden with such salt that they feel fated for star-crossed sentences - those are locations in which I like to put myself. It could be a caprice by Paganini or some stripped-down and otherworldly female voice, just so long as it has that quality of being totally transportive.

How would you define your style?
In expressing who I am on a physical level, I hope for (and accordingly dress with) minimal distraction so as to make most evident the metaphysical - that which lies beneath. I depend on my skin and a naturally-occurring luminance. There are no tattoos on my body, no piercings, and rarely any makeup. Overall, I try to have as few adulterations to my natural state as I can afford. So the requirement I have for any fabric, design is that it feel as imperceptibly different from my own soft-texture and limb-shape as is realistically possible. I appreciate it immensely when an adornment is able to be both simple yet intricate, have a grace and timelessness that is immediately clear.
