Newly-appointed Martin Margiela Creative Director John Galliano made a rare public appearance at last night's British Fashion Awards to present an award to his friend Anna Wintour, who accepted the Outstanding Achievement award at London's Coliseum.

The former Dior Creative Director has been elusive since his termination from the French Luxury House, but made a special exception to make a short but meaningful speech to the American Vogue Editor-in-Chief and Conde Nast Artistic Director who was being honoured for her 40 plus years in the industry and her profound influence on the fashion business, designers and commerce.

Anna expressed "a special sense of gratitude to this nation for everything I've been given in my life." She went on to thank the British fashion industry for "always being supportive of risk-taking and creativity."
