The sparse but driving beat is a perfect backdrop to Wilow’s 90s vocal stylings.

Willow Smith is spending time in the studio: a glitchy freestyle called "F Q - C #idk" dropped late last night. The third new release on her Soundcloud since the start of 2016, the track arrives just over a month after her debut album's surprise December drop. This girl is on fire!

Over a sparse but driving synth and drum track, Willow throws down a distorted vocal with 90s-style tone shifts and vocal shakes, musing on the perennial topic of not being totally sure: "I don't know/ they expect me to know/ but I, I, I don't know/ I don't know my choice."

As is the case with many of her SoundCloud uploads, the youngest Smith plays producer on this track. As we explored upon the release of her acoustic-leaning track "Afraid," Willow's experimentation on the boards is just as daring as her sessions in the booth. She laces beats with xylophone strikes and super dance-y bass-drum hits, but isn't afraid to play with lo-fi guitar riffs -- soaking her sounds with reverb in equal measure. We're excited to see what she tries next!
