For i-D.co's official launch in NZ, we asked awesome Kiwi photographer and long time i-D contributor Derek Henderson to photograph i-D's favourite young talents from his home country. Pass us the sunglasses because the future is looking bright.

Working towards and gaining a gold medal at the Hiphop International competition in Las Vegas with The Royal Family.

What makes you hopeful for the future?
Knowing that the path you are on is the right path. What I am doing right now is what I am meant to be doing. The future can only be decided by the choices I make in this moment.

What's the best thing about being young and creative in 2014?
Being able to have a stage to showcase your creativity. Whether it be a literal stage or through social media, being able to share your voice with so many is now more possible than ever before.

Who or what inspires you?
At the moment I am influenced greatly by the condition of the world and following a more spiritual path. Being around nature and listening to music also inspires me. Previously I had been influenced a lot by YouTube dance videos and imitating the movement I saw.

What's been your proudest achievement?
I'm excited to be working with Auckland based gallery, Hopkinson Mossman.

What makes you hopeful for the future?
I am currently working toward exhibitions in Malmö, Los Angeles and Paris.

Who or what inspires you?
Right now: Jean Image's 1969 film Aladdin and his Magic Lamp (the film borrows its animation style from Disney, but predates the Disney feature by a couple of decades), Lotto New Zealand, and Mike Lilian, a willow basketmaker based out of Kakanui in the South Island.

The best thing I'm experiencing right now is creative freedom.
